Meet James Rains, LAMFT, LADC

I am a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor providing in-home mental health services for families.  I received my Masters of Adlerian Counseling and Psychotherapy from Adler Graduate School, Minnetonka, MN, and my additional degrees, Education Specialist, Masters in Education, and Bachelors Degree in Ministry from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA.  I am passionate about families and helping families to heal.

My clinical experience includes working with individuals, couples, and families with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Experiential Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Christian Counseling, and Adlerian Psychotherapy and working with individuals who struggle with compulsive behaviors and addictions.  I have worked in a co-occurring inpatient substance use and abuse facility, a community-based mental health center, and private practice.

As someone who has significantly benefited from therapy and the love and kindness of others in this field, I believe that therapy is one of the most important journeys a person or family can take and one of the scariest ones.  I work from a perspective that values the strengths and courage of individuals and families to move toward positive change and health.  I practice from a system framework utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Experiential Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Adlerian Psychotherapy.  As a believer in Jesus Christ, I recognize his value on all people and do my best to replicate the love and grace I have experienced as his follower.

I am an eclectic person with all kinds of loves and passions.  I love collecting retro technology, fencing, scuba diving, working on cars, reading, writing, and watching b-budget movies with good friends.  I also have a giant retro video game and Lego collection, which speaks to the inherent nerd inside of me.

*James is currently under supervision, working toward independent licensure with the State of MN.
